The Christmas Tag

As part of Blogmas, I'd been searching for a Christmas tag to complete and I stumbled upon this little gem on Makeup Savvy here, and thought I'd give it a go!

I had a lot of fun answering these questions - it's always nice to think about the festivities of years' gone by. I've also copied the questions out below if you wanted to answer them over on your blog too!

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?

There are so many amazing Christmas films out there, and I'm definitely guilty of binge-watching the Christmas 24 channel with all the Hallmark Christmas movies in the run up to Christmas. That said I can probably narrow this down to my top three films. First up it has to be A Muppet's Christmas Carol. An upbeat adaptation of a Christmas Carol, the Muppet's version is full of hilariously cheesy comedy, fun songs and gives you that feel-good tingly feeling at the end. Next up is Father Christmas, an animated short film illustrated by Raymond Briggs. Growing up it was my childhood tradition to stick this on, on Christmas Eve. The beautiful drawings contrast perfectly with Raymond Briggs' depiction of Santa being this grumpy old man searching for the perfect holiday - if you love the Snowman, you have to watch this! Finally I have to mention National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Once my sister and I were a little older my parents introduced us to this hilarious festive film. Filled with situational comedy that'll have you groaning at times, it's an oldie but a goodie.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Growing up the excitement of Christmas was too much for my sister and I to bear, so my parents would always give us a present from them to open on Christmas Eve - usually festive pyjamas so we'd have something cosy and new to wake up in on Christmas morning. Nowadays we can contain ourselves and all our presents are opened on Christmas day, but that doesn't mean I don't still save some new pj's for Christmas Eve.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

I remember one year my parents had hidden a final present from 'Santa' inside the chimney on our fireplace. They told us to check inside to see if Father Christmas had accidentally left anything behind when he shimmied back up to the roof, and sure enough we pulled out two matching plastic tiaras and wands. As you can imagine the magic of that moment has stuck with me to this day.

4. Favourite festive food?

If we're talking Christmas dinner, I swear nothing beats pigs in blankets, except maybe a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding!

5. Favourite Christmas gift?

This is a real tough one, I'm very lucky enough to be able to say I've had a number of gorgeous gifts over the years, so I really don't think I could pinpoint this. I have to say though I remember visiting Santa one year and asking for a 'Fluffy Surprise' set (I don't know if anyone else remembers these from their childhood but please leave a message below if you do, I can't have been the only one obsessed with these!) And I remember the sheer excitement unwrapping the exact set I wanted on Christmas Day - though it was incredibly short lived, as our pug Rosie too a liking to my favourite one and chewed its tail off!

6. Favourite Christmas scent?

This is a real toss up between the scent of a real Christmas tree when you first put it up, or the smell of the wood burner warming the house.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Since my parents split up and my sister moved away, I haven't really been able to keep any of our traditions we once had. But I still indulge in festive pj's on Christmas Eve and a glass of prosecco!

8. What tops your tree?

A simple gold star has literally topped our tree since as far back as I can remember. I always think it'd be nice to switch things up a little, but it's become a bit of a classic now.

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

Not particularly extravagant, but I always remember putting this Crayola craft chest of drawers on my wishlist. Santa would always bring lots of craft supplies but never that Crayola art chest. I've since asked my rents about this one, and they simply said it was far too big to fit into our bungalow at the time, which I totally sympathise with - I'd have probably used it twice and lost interest anyway!

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?

Ask a child this question and they'd say the presents. But I think as you get older you simply appreciate that it's a time to surround yourself with family and friends, and just enjoy being together. Of course a little tipple or too is always nice as well..

Hope you enjoyed reading this and that it gave you a little insight into how I spend Christmas. If you do have a go at answering this tag, do let me know as I'd love to have a little read through!
