What 2017 Has Taught Me

This year has been a mixture of ups and downs, with the highs being amazing memorable moments, and the lows being some of the more difficult obstacles I've had to tackle in a good few years. But from the lows, I feel like I've actually achieved a lot personally through my own growth. So here are the top five things that 2017 has taught me.

If you want it, you've got to work for it. 

For ages I had this idea that good things come to those who wait, and that if you're kind, patient and positive you'll end up with everything you want. But in fact, whilst that might be true for some things, the important things in life like work or blog goals, aren't just going to all land in your lap one day. You need to put in the work. You got a dream? Go do something about it! If you want to start a course, learn a language, set up your own business, start making the steps that will allow you to get there. Whether it take a week, a month or a few years, every step you take will have you a little closer to your dream.

Channel your negativity into something positive.

When you're feeling sad, anxious or lonely, it can be easy to let yourself be consumed by those feelings. This is the year I learnt that no one can make you feel better about things that are going on around you apart from yourself. I threw myself into my blogging, art and socialising with friends and family when times got a little bit stressful, and found it all to work wonders on my stress levels. If you're able to even spend 5 minutes of your time doing productive things, or even things that'll make you happy, I guarantee it'll make you feel better.

A good night's sleep can work wonders.

I've always been a bit of a night owl and am guilty of spending too much time scrolling through social media before bed, but I really tried to take time out to read and switch off before I turned my lights out this summer. As a result I found myself feeling well rested and ready to take on the day. Unfortunately this isn't a habit I've managed to keep up in my everyday routine - I find myself to be more productive after 9pm! But having discovered what a difference a full night's sleep can make to you both physically and emotionally, I'm hoping to get my bedtime routine down in 2018.

Don't be afraid to take time out for yourself.

Bloggers will understand sometimes more than anyone else how difficult it can feel juggling a job, family, friends and a blog all at once. There are times when you can feel a little claustrophobic with all your to-do lists and social events. But instead of letting that weigh you down, it's important to just say no and take a little time out for yourself. Whether yoga is your thing, painting, blogging or just lying in bed with a box of Maltesers and having a Netflix binge, yo do you girl!

Fight for what you believe in regardless of what anyone else thinks. 

I'm not saying that your opinion is the only one that matters, or that you should be pushing that on anyone else, but having an opinion and holding your own in a conversation is something I've learnt this year. If you feel passionately about a topic, don't let anyone else tell you it's wrong or stupid, instead explain with confidence why you feel that way. Having interests and hobbies is part of what makes you, you, and if someone doesn't like that then they're not important! 2018 is going to be the year of self confidence, self belief and happiness for me.
